Rock Anemones otherwise known as Rock Flower Anemones is a member of the Phymanthidae family. What do we need to know about this Sea Anemone? Here’s all the information you need.

 

Location and Characteristics

They originate from the Caribbean and are found in various colours, and sizes. They are usually seen in the shape of a disc but are significant to a different colour from the rest. The oral disc lacks tentacles, and the tentacles are often beaded in appearance. The tentacles are beaded in appearance. In recent years, the Rock Flower Anemone has become enormously popular owing to the many vibrant colour combinations it comes in. Most aquarists choose to place them directly on the sand bed, and it is not uncommon to see aquariums whose floorspace is entirely taken up by a rainbow of different colour morphs. 

Most anemones live attached, catching passing food with their tentacles. They can move slowly by gliding on their base. Many are also capable of moving rapidly to avoid predation by detaching, catching a current and re-attaching elsewhere.

 

Lighting

These anemones are relatively resilient and can adapt to a wide range of ambient light, therefore, these anemones are a perfect addition to a reef aquarium because they do not wander around and just stay still. It is a good choice for those tank owners to have this kind of marine life and add to their collection.

Feeding and Waterflow

The Flower Anemone is a carnivore and requires meaty foods to survive. Offer mussels and freshly chopped fish meat, as well as high-quality frozen foods. Adding iodine and trace elements to the aquarium will help the Flower Anemone thrive. The size of the food must be small enough that the polyp can fully ingest it. These anemones stay relatively small compared to other anemones in their Genus. They rarely grow larger than 5″ in diameter. Their main source of food and can also be trained to take Mysis shrimp if you want your anemone to grow faster. Moderate to strong water movement is recommended.

Rock flower anemone care is easy and they are perfect for beginner aquarium enthusiasts. Sea Anemone does well with a variety of lighting. However, for the most vibrant display of their colours, try blue spectrum lighting or LED’s; it really brings out their colours and makes them pop. Medium water flow is perfect as well.
